About the game
About Loto 6/49
Loto 6/49 is the main game of Loteria Română, Romania's state lottery company, whose origins go back to a lottery founded in 1906. The first automated lotto games were held in August 1993, after a modernisation that began in 1992. Draws take place on Thursday and Sunday at 18:30 local time and are broadcast live. The Thursday draw was added on 2 July 2009. The balls are drawn from urns in public, overseen by a commission with members from several ministries, the Romanian Bureau of Legal Metrology and the national consumer protection authority.
Players pick 6 numbers from 49. There are four prize tiers, for 6, 5, 4 and 3 matches; the last one was added on 2 May 2010. Prizes are pari-mutuel: at least 40% of sales go to the prize fund, and prize values have no minimum or maximum. When a tier has no winners, its fund normally carries over to the same tier in the next draw. The same ticket can also be used for Noroc, a separate game played on a 7-digit number.
On 13 August 2026 the largest first-tier prize in the game's history was won: 52,839,623.04 lei, on a single line played in Oradea. The record holds in lei. In euro, the 48,952,706.17 lei prize of 14 July 2013 was worth more, about €11 million against €10.08 million. Prizes before 1 July 2005 are in old lei: at the redenomination, 10,000 old lei became one new leu.
The Lottevo archive holds 2,317 Loto 6/49 draws, from 4 January 1998 to 1 November 2026.
Over the whole archive, the most frequently drawn number is 6 (323 times), and the least frequent are 31 and 42 (253 times each). Each draw is independent: past frequencies do not change the odds of the next one.
